David Carmichael
David Carmichael is the former Director of National Projects at ParticipACTION, Director of Research and Development at the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA), and High Performance Director at the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association. He has conducted hundreds of presentations and workshops on the benefits of sport and physical activity throughout Canada and internationally, and holds a Masters Degree in Physical Education with a Coaching Specialization. David has been successful at helping organizations from the sport and physical activity sectors reach their participation, communications and fundraising goals. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
- In 1991, David published an Olympic wrestling long-term athlete development model for 10- to 29-year-olds in partnership with the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association, Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association, Coaching Association of Canada, and the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation.
- Between 1989 and 1998, David was responsible for managing the creative development process for several projects at the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA), and helped increase the organization's annual operating budget from $75,000 to $1.8 million.
- In 1992 and 1993, David designed and delivered workshops throughout Ontario for Make the Active Choice, a joint project of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation and Parks and Recreation Ontario that promoted the role that recreation plays in preventing substance abuse among young people.
- From 1998 to 2001, David secured more than $500,000 in cash and in-kind support at ParticipACTION for Summer Active, Building Self-Esteem Through Sport, and Youth on the Run (a partnership with the Toronto Olympic Club).
- From 1999 to 2004, David was the Long-Term Athlete Development course conductor for Levels 4/5 of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) at the National Coaching Institute Ontario (NCIO).
- Between 2001 and 2004, David managed the Let’s Get Moving! campaign for the Canadian Professional Coaches Association, with seed funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
- David helped the Sport Alliance of Ontario facilitate the establishment of Community Sport Councils between 2001 and 2004.
- In 2004, David helped the Ontario Volleyball Association obtain $400,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the Spikes program.
- David developed a media relations/communications strategy for Can-Fit-Pro in 2004.
- As part of the Innovative Participation Project (IPP) team in 2003 and 2004, David facilitated the development of projects with Ontario Special Olympics, Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association, RowOntario, Softball Ontario, Ontario Cerebral Palsy Sports Association, Gymnastics Ontario, and the Ontario Speedskating Association.
